My Design Process

I've spent years implementing sound instructional design practices and methodologies. I typically employ one of the following when designing learning solutions:

  • ADDIE

  • SAM

  • Kirkpatrick model

  • ARCS

  • Backward design

Each of these designs/methods aligns well with various adult learning theories and principles. ADDIE and SAM usually perform well in corporate trainings and onboarding sessions. ADDIE, as seen on the right, stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Evaluation, and Implementation. This process can be cyclical and iterative, complimenting Agile/Scrum-based projects very well.

SAM stands for Successive Approximation Model, a rapid prototyping model that follows an iterative process. This also aligns well with Agile/Scrum projects.

I typically begin projects by collaborating with leaders and subject matter experts (SME's) to identify learning objectives. Learning objectives determine how knowledge will be assessed throughout the learning experience. Once learning objectives are identified, I begin designing storyboards and wireframes to kickoff the development phase of the project.

Once development begins, I'll provide mockups, samples, and progress updates in an iterative manner until we agree that the finished product meets expectations.
